Fugitive Bohun Bo walks into SIT trap

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: In a major breakthrough, Bohun Bo alias Bohyon Bo, the main accused in the infamous Daporijo MMS scandal, was arrested by state Special Investigating Team (SIT) with help of Changlang district police and CRPF at around 4 am today. As per the report, SIT team led by its Deputy Superintendent of Police Dipankar Mishra assisted by 3 IRBn personnel following a tip off raided the home of Bo located at Wagun Ponthai village around 7 km from Bordumsa town early in the morning.

The dismissed assistant sub-inspector of Arunachal Pradesh Police has been booked under section 357, 342, 292(A), 294, 376, 109, 34 IPC read with section 67 of IT Amendment Act 2008. He has also been booked under section 4 of IRWP Act. The SIT team has brought Bo to Itanagar and currently he is under the custody of Itanagar police.

Bo was arrested earlier on March 21, 2011 but was later granted interim bail by the court of JFMC, capital, Naharlagun. He had been absconding since he got the bail. Arunachal Pradesh Police dismissed him from service on May 12, 2011 and he was declared as proclaimed offender. The case was transferred to SIT on April, 8, 2011.

Bo and his four accomplices, all police constables, had created state-wide outrage by filming indecent MMS of two under-age children inside Daporijo police station last year. Though state police arrested all the accused, Bo after getting bail has been evading law enforcement agency since then.

While talking to this daily, Sindhu Pillai, AIGP informed that Bo did not offer any resistance at the time of arrest. On being asked about alleged link of Bo with underground elements of Changlang, she told that interrogation was going and details are awaited.

Meanwhile, Tumme Amo, Superintendent of Police, Changlang district told that Bo was allegedly living in disguise as CBI officer. “A fake CBI I-card was recovered from possession at the time of arrest. The fake I-card read as No.-CBI/2003/ Dtd 31st May. Area of duty- Changlang district (Arunachal Pradesh) and Tinsukia district (Assam). Designation- Senior Investigating Officer (SIO), CBI. This startling revelation shows that he was living as CBI official before the arrest. We believe that Bo might have deep link with anti-social elements,” said SP Amo. While state police has done their duty of arresting Bo, it is to be seen whether law catches up with him or he would still manage to get bail and roam freely.

 

Unique garbage mismanagement system triggers pollution and forest fire

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: Garbage strewn all over the congested roads making it messier and haphazard dumping are a common sight all over the state and for many, it is no longer repelling.

In absence of basic civic sense among the people and a committed department, we are forced to get used to the bad sight and smell, but the dumping ground on the Itanagar-Hollongi national highway 52A road is so nauseating that even the strongest of us is left unable to deal with it.

One has to be prepared at least a mile ahead before even reaching the spot.  

It’s not only the smell that is a problem but the way trash has been so haphazardly dumped all over the place.

Adding more woes to the situation, the department of Urban Development has been so innovative with the garbage disposal system that it actually burns trash not only polluting at least a stretch of five kilomotres but also harming the wild life and forest in the process. The dumped disposals smolder 24x7 and around the year, no matter how much is the volume of torrential rain. Sometime it creates so much panic that the urban development department has to call in the services of the fire tenders to douse the fire.

The haphazard dumping is noticeably affecting the environment as the area is almost turning barren because of sporadic forest fire breaking out from disposal area. It also pollutes the stream, beside constant threat of forest fire in the area.  

The urban development’s solid base management, a disposal plant is yet to start work and at the rate things are going, it is unlikely, it will be operational soon . The plant was supposed to be operationalized  by early February but reportedly all works relating to it has been halted  after the Centre failed to release third installment of the  allocated fund this year.  

Director Urban Development Taba Tedir clarified that the department is striving to improve the service to keep the city clean.  

He said that there are only two dumpers at Itanagar and four at Naharlagun because of it which dustbin at sectors are not cleared up on a daily basis.

The Director further said that his department had written a letter to the district administration to locate a suitable land for dumping ground. He said that the district administration has failed to provide the land for dumping.

Whatever may be the excuse, but it is time for the department to really expedite the process instead of becoming a polluter and garbage-dumper itself.

 

Arunachalee karate players shine at international C’ship

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: Five karate players of All Arunachal Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Association have brought laurels to the state as well as country by winning seven medals, including four gold and three silver at International Seiko-Kai Shito-Ryu Karate Championship, which was held at Vadodara, Gujarat from January 27-29.

The five players, who represented India and won medals, are Tagri Raju, Charu Govin, Banenso Tawsik, Tassar Tite and Dongda Taduk.

While Govin won a gold medal each in Kumite and Kata events in U-17 years category Banenso also struck equal number of gold medals in same events in below 15 years category.

Raju and Taduk won a silver medal apiece in Kata and Kumite events in above 20 years and 18 years class respectively while Tassar Tite won a silver in Kumite (open black belt).

Meanwhile, All Arunachal Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Association felicitated all the medal winning players on their arrival here in a simple function today afternoon. A pair of gloves to each player was given as a token of appreciation by Arunachal Karate Association general secretary L Marik, president and general secretary of All Arunachal Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Association Dr. Marli Ete and Charu Tatung. The function was also attended by All Arunachal Shotkan Karate Association president Tai Hipik and Chambang ADEO Charu Tanya.

Earlier, MLA Takam Pario also gave few amounts to the medal winning players in New Delhi as a token of appreciation.

 

Mystery shrouds principal’s death

PASIGHAT, Feb 3: Mystery still surrounds the death of Rubi Rekha Gogoi (36), the principal of Donyi-Polo Vidya Niketan (DPVN) Pasighat, who died under mysterious circumstances at Pasighat General Hospital on January- 29.

Police is still clueless what led to her unnatural death even as it continues to investigate the case. The prime accused Raghav Pandey is yet to be arrested by the police.

A 7 year-old girl, who was residing along with deceased stated before the police that accused Pandey and his accomplice Jay Praksh Singh snatched their mobile phone and warned them not to inform Rubi’s condition to her family members.

Pasighat General Hospital (PGH) sources informed that Rubi was admitted in the hospital on January 25 midnight in a serious condition. She was given treatment for acute respiratory infection but her actual complicacy was detected after an ultrasonography. The doctors operated on her but could not save her as she was bleeding internally.

Deceased Rubi Rekha was a native of Dhemaji in Assam and was serving in the school for the last one year. The East Siang Deputy Commissioner has referred the body to Dhemaji Civil Hospital (Assam) for post mortem to get rid of legal complexities.

Arrested Singh is under police custody and he has confessed nothing about the incident. No other arrest has been reported till filing of this report.

 

Health check up camp for farm women

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: A series of health check-up camp for farm women were organized by Lower Dibang Valley Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in collaboration with District Medical Hospital, Roing at Jia, Ezengo, Iphingo and Kebali villages.

Senior medical officer Dr. Rehman of Medical Hospital, Roing as resource person educated the farm women about various diseases, their treatment and precautionary measures and suitable diets for maintaining good health. He urged the farmers to avail benefits of improved vegetables seeds and high breed poultry from the KVK.  Samit Choudhary, Laboratory Technician,  General  Medical Hospital, Roing assisted KVK in drawing and analyzing blood samples of  farm women collected from 5 SHGs groups based at different villages. The purpose of the study was to suggest  them for consumption of locally available food for maintaining good health and  to effectively carry out agricultural activities thus enhancing farm production as well as socio- economic status of the farmers.

Nanang Tamut, SMS Home Science, narrated the importance of balanced diet in building up haemoglobin. He  encouraged them to take iron rich foods like Drumsticks and Spinach regularly which help in maintaining hemoglobin level. She also encouraged farm women to actively involve in kitchen gardening and advised them to  go for periodical hemoglobin level check up for good health.

A total of 60 farm women actively participated in the camps and gained knowledge on balanced and suitable diets. The campaign were organized under the initiatives of  Dr.T.J.Ramesha, Programme Coordinator and SMS (Home Science) .

 

Red Rockfest reach Tawang, Symmetry Clan enthralls

TAWANG, Feb 3: The local MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary Art and Culture Tsewang Dondup kicked off the Red Rockfest, a concert under Multi Media Campaign organised by Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society, Naharlagun to create awareness on HIV/AIDS at the premises of Circuit House Tawang on February 3.

The Symmetry Clan enthralled the audience with their powerful performance.

Dondup while inaugurating the MMC at Tawang asked everyone to stay safe and create general awareness about HIV/AIDS in the district. He said that only one case of HIV positive in the district should not be looked upon as containment as unreported cases may be very large and stressed that the vulnerable age group should be targeted for the awareness. Dondup further appealed the public not to practice multiple unsafe sex as the same may lead to HIV infection.

SP SN Mosobi said that since there is no complete cure for HIV/AIDS, one should adopt precautionary measures and be aware to stop it.

DRDA PD Karma Leki and  DMO TC Khirme also gave vital information on HIV/AIDS control and asked all to stay safe. DIPRO

 

Gu:min Liisum - a symbol of unity among Panggis

GEKU, Feb 3: For the people of Panggi community among the Adi tribe living in Geku and Katan circles of Upper Siang district, Gu:min Liisum, a gathering of four pieces of large monolithic stones at Kumku village, has been a symbol of unity and brotherhood among the Mo:ne, Mongku, Taku- Pa:lo and Paron clans of Panggi community.

Kumku village, a sleepy hamlet at Beging hilltop at the upstream of Sibe River is believed to be the original place of the Panggis. One Kekir Panyang, who lived in Kumku village, led the four groups about 500 years back and saved the land for their descendents.

Kumku village is surrounded by high mountains. Located at about 8 km north of Geku town, the area with hilly terrain and lush green vegetation is a perfect place for adventure tourism. According to the locals, the Forest Survey of India, during a survey, had discovered some rare living species and rich varieties of flora and fauna.

Oral history of the Panggis says that the people of the four groups assembled at Begiing Kumting (presently Kumku villages) and promised to live together in order to protect their land from others. They also gathered four large stones one for each group as a symbol of unity at Gu:min Liisum. Since then, they have been using it as a place of worship and later on a community hall (De:re) was developed at the spot.

Describing the mythological background of Gu:min Liisum, the Gaon Burah of Kumku village Okang Mongku told this correspondent that spiritual power has been acting in the De:re and our people are using it as a holy place of adjudication against any immoral acts.

“It is a fact that the wrong doers, who make a false promise or commitment in the De:re must not remain alive,” said the Gaon Burah.

“Our people have a faith that spirits of our ancestors live in the De:re to protect their descendents for their survival on hilly land. It is now well-preserved and developed. Former MP Tapir Gao granted few amounts for its development,” informed the Anchal Somiti Member of Kumku village-(I), Yup Panyang.

The mighty Siang River supports bio-spheres on its both banks and attached with the socio-economic life of the people in entire Adi belt. The local PRI leaders have been demanding the authority to develop the historically important area by providing all means of communication and infrastructure.

 

RKMS celebrates annual function

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: The famous Ramakrisna Mission School, Narottam Nagar, situated amidst lush green forest and serene surroundings, 8 KM away from Deomali came to life with soothing songs and nimble-footed dances on February 2 as the school celebrated its annual function.

Speaking on the occasion, Wangki Lowang, PS, sports and border affairs who happens to be an ex-student of the school said that the more he interacted with the students, the more he learned adding that as he was addressing the students he was transported back to the wonder days at the wonderful institution. While lauding the brilliant academic achievements of the school over the years, Lowang asked the students to maintain the high standard when they go outside for higher studies and also narrated the history of famous Nocte religious guru Narottam after whom the place Narottam Nagar has been named as a tribute.

Participating in the deliberation, Thangwang Wangham, PS, IPR said that the RKM school has created a niche for itself and attributed the credit to the self-less and untiring efforts of the Swamijis and the supporting  staff. While dwelling at length on the pious teacher-student relations, he said that teachers and students should work like a well-oiled machine to produce worthy citizens in order to build a strong, vibrant and self-reliant India. He donated Rs 1 lakh to the school welfare fund.

Speaking as a special invitee, DIPRO Denhang Bosai, exhorted the students to come out of the cocoon of self-made miseries and explore the large world outside which is full of avenues, opportunities and possibilities for those who want to shine in life. Bosai opined that the students were not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the partners of today adding that the future would be safe and secure only if the students were well-disciplined, well-educated and well-informed. He further asked the students to make best use of the many opportunities provided to them by the institution to build a better tomorrow. He released the school magazine ‘Narottam’ published to mark the occasion.

In his concluding remarks, Secretary of the school Swami Ishatmanandaji, while appreciating the guest speakers, explained to the students the context of the speeches and expressed his happiness and satisfaction over the growth of the institution in all spheres. Swami Ishatmanandaji who would be leaving for Chicago shortly on his transfer there, said that the institution that he was nurturing for the last many years, would always remain close to his heart and that he would always cherish the fond memories.

Earlier, Swami Supradiptananda, Vice Principal threw light on various achievements of the school and also read out the reports of the school. The prizes for different events were given away to the students by the Parliamentary Secretaries Wangki Lowang and Thangwang Wangham. The students presented an attractive cultural programme including yoga display.

 

Paya bridge tragedy

KAWS demands financial help for victim’s family

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: The Kugi Ao Welfare Society (KAWS) has appealed to the state Govt to sanction immediate relief assistance to the family of late Jumpi Naso, who lost her life in recent Paya hanging bridge tragedy in West Siang district.

Demanding financial assistance to Paya villagers, who are badly affected after the tragic bridge collapse incident, the Society also appealed to the local MLA and parliamentary secretary, home, geology and Mining, Gadam Ete  for solution to the grievances of Paya villagers on humanitarian ground. According to the Society, the bridge collapsed with nine students when a group of students from Pobdi Govt Secondary School were returning at Paya village on January 31 after school hours.  While   Naso, a class seven student was declared dead at Aalo District hospital, another girl, namely, Inu Sora sustained major injuries with fracture. Other survivors of the bridge collapse received minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the Society requested the Brigadier of Five Mountain Division, Aalo to introduce ferry service till re-construction of suspension bridge.

 

Intensive 2 day long training programme at Basar

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: Intensive two days  training programme on Scientific Cultivation of Mushroom sponsored and imparted by Directorate of Mushroom Research (DMR), Cambaghat, Solan, Himachal Pradesh was organized from February 2 by Krishi Vigan Kendra, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar. All total 90 participants including Subject Matter Specialists from different KVKs, state government officials of Agriculture and Industry departments of Arunachal Pradesh, farmers, members of self-help group and unemployed youths participated in the programme.

The programme was inaugurated and chaired by Dr. Manjit Singh, Director, DMR, Solan. Dr. Singh emphasized the importance of scientific mushroom cultivation in view of prevalence of the tradition of consumption of wild mushroom among local people.

Dr. Rupankar Bhaga-wati, Joint Director, ICAR, AP Centre, Basar elaborated the role already being played by KVK, West Siang in popularizing oyster mushroom cultivation under guidance of Dr. S.P.Singh, SMS (Plant Protection), ICAR, A.P.Centre, Basar. Dr. Bhagawati highlighted the importance of mushroom cultivation for secondary income generation and self employment generation of the rural youth and economic upliftment of common farmers through mushroom cultivation. He also focused the importance of adaption of other types of mushroom cultivation. In the programme Dr. R.C. Upadhyay, Principal Scientist, DMR gave a detail lecture on cultivation of Dhingri and Shiitake Mushroom.  While Sunil Verma, Technical Officer, DMR demonstrated the scientific method of preparation of spawn. There was hand-on practical demonstration of techniques of mushroom cultivation of oyster and other mushrooms. There was face-to-face question answer session of experts and farmers and officials. All the participants were given certificates in the valedictory session after feedback analysis and all the participants expressed their overwhelming satisfaction and assured for taking up of mushroom cultivation in commercial basis in coming days. Some of the participants brought locally available and grown mushroom form the forest and it was identified by the resource persons and explained to the participants which are edible or poisonous non-edible. During the programme participants were shown several documentaries and distributed books and study materials to all the participants.

RGU foundation day

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: The Rajiv Gandhi University will be celebrating its 29th Foundation Day on February 4.

Prof. Mihir K. Chaudhuri, Vice-Chancellor, Tezpur University,  Assam will deliver the Foundation Day lecture on the topic, “Higher Education Scenario in India: Reasons to Cheer” & “Climate Change and Climate Shift: A Matter of Concern”.  Prof. Chaudhuri is a scholar of eminence in the field of Chemistry. He will release the RGU Research Journal (No. 10) on the occasion of the Foundation Day.

Prof. David R. Syiemlieh, Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University will chair the function.

 

Likabali people demand another check gate

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: The citizens of Likabali area have urged the state Govt to sanction another check gate at Likabali near Assam police border outpost  for safety and security of Arunachalee people in Likabali town.

In a memorandum to state Home Minister, panchayat and senior leaders and NGO representatives of Likabali area said that the present check gate situated five km away from Likabali town proved futile as the unwanted elements are roaming freely in Likabali township under Arunachal territory.  The town has virtually been converted into a safe haven for some miscreants, particularly thieves and dacoits from neighbouring Assam as  they do not feel it necessary to have Inner Line permit in absence of check gate in the township. This has resulted in increasing number of criminal activities in Likabali circle; the memorandum said adding that much of the border tension and skirmishes are created by such miscreants in a revengeful mood.

In addition to this, some unwanted elements from neighouring Assam are frequenting in Likabali town for tax free liquor and creating nuisance for peace loving people, particularly women folk, it said.

 

GSU comes out against AR

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: Galo Students Union (GSU) has came out strongly against recruitment of Chakma and Nepali citizen by Assam Rifles for various posts like Armour, clerk and radio operator under the ST quota of Arunachal Pradesh. In a release GSU General Secretary Pakmik Taipodia, while questioning the move of Assam Rifle, asked them to immediately cancel the appointment order at the earliest.

“We will never accept this decision of Assam Rifles. The seats meant for tribals of Arunachal cannot be given to refugee like Chakmas and non-APST Nepalis. Assam Rifles should cancel the appointment and re-conduct the recruitment rally,” stated GSU. Further union has urged state governor JJ Singh to act in this regard. “Governor has always advocated for rights of Arunachalee tribal in various forums. Assam Rifles has infringed the rights of Arunachalee tribal by recruiting non-APSTs like Chakma and Nepali  to the posts  reserved for APST candidates. We hope Governor will take strong action in this regard,” stated union. Further while supporting the stand taken by AAPSU, the apex student body of state, GSU urged every tribal people to come and oppose this move of Assam Rifles. “We appeal AAPSU to launch massive movement against Assam Rifles throughout the state if they do not cancel the appointment given to Chakmas and Nepali. We cannot afford to ignore this gross mistake,” stated GSU.

 

Inducted IAS officer Onit Panyang feted

PASIGHAT, Feb 3: Onit Panyang, who has been inducted in Indian Administrative Service (IAS), was felicitated by ‘Panggi Welfare Society’ in a recent meeting held at Geku town in Upper Siang district.

Panyang, who is presently serving as Itanagar capital Deputy Commissioner has been inducted in IAS in AGMUT (Assam, Goa, Mizoram and other Union Territories) batch.

An APCS topper in 1992 batch, he was posted in Upper Siang district as an EAC.

In the subsequent period, he served as an administrative officer in different capacities and ultimately feted with this honour.

Panyang is a native of Geku in Upper Siang district. Nitnam Padun, daughter of DC Onit Panyang who has passed last CBSE XII examination with splendid performance was also felicitated in the occasion.

 

UAEA’s plea to departments

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: The Unemployed Arunachalee Engineers’ Association (UAEA) has requested all the concern departments not to appoint the candidates selected by APPSC for the posts of AE (Civil).

Making available a copy of Gauhati High court’s pronouncement, the UAEA said “until and unless Court delivers further order, all concern authorities of different departments are requested not to give any appointments to those candidates selected by APPSC.”

The court in its judgment (case no. WP(C) 443.2012) on February 2 pronounced “ In the interim, the respondents are at liberty to give appointment to those selected candidates who have secured the benchmark of 45 per cent in aggregate and 33 per cent in each written paper, in terms of Clause -8 of the advertisement Dtd 8.12.2010. However, appointment should not be given to those selected candidates, who have failed to secure the benchmark, specified in Clause -8 of the advertisement.”

Referring to the  APPSC notification PSC-R/24/2009 wherein the  commission had reportedly added one mark to an aspirant on the ground of human error,  the Association further said that OMR/answer key actually did not work for all the aspirants expect for few selected candidates. It claimed that there were three numbers of OMR/answer key for the same question to award marks.

Regarding reported complaints filed by some candidates, the Association further said it did not lodge any complaint. It threatened to launch agitation in case of failure on the part of Commission to come clear in this regard.

Donggin festival celebrated

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: The Bori community has celebrated the Donggin festival with traditional fervor and gaiety at Tuting in Upper Siang district on Feb 2.

While unfurling the festival flag, former vice president of Nationalist Congress Party Arunachal Pradesh unit, Gelong Medo called upon the Bori community to foster social harmony, peace and tranquility. Tuting BDO N T Uma was also present on the occasion.

Both Medo and Uma assured to extend all possible help to Tuting people in block level. They also assured to provide some CGI sheets to the need people.

The mythology of Donggin festival was narrated by Festival Committee president Tabin Gaduk, according to a release issued by Adi Baane Kebang Youth Front.

 

Matey inaugurated power stations

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: Parliamentary Secretary DoTC and Social Welfare and Child Development Yumsem Matey inaugurated power sub-station at BSNL tower, Lazu on January 26.

Earlier, he also inaugurated another sub-station and diesel generating power house at Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya Niausa, Longding recently.

Matey appreciated the AE electrical, Khonsa for his dedication and contribution toward the development of area and also to Bhagawat Constructions of Tinsukia for timely supply of good quality materials.

Select genuine and efficient one

Dear Editor,

With references to upcoming U.D.C examination under department of power which is going to be held on 12th February, I would like to express my concerns.

I have faced so many exams where I have seen that candidates using cell phone to communicate with their agent for answers. In spite of that, invigilators never interrupt or try to stop them. Though we are a democratic country but democracy is not applicable inside examination halls. So make sure that examination are under strict supervision and clean atmosphere.

In addition to this, I request the department not to indulge in corruption and nepotism in the selection process. Select genuine and efficient candidates.

Correct the mistakes

Dear Editor,

As I was flipping through the pages of Rail Bandhu magazine on my way to Jaipur, I came across a page which showed Arunachal Pradesh in place of Assam in the map of India. In the same page, the magazine had showcased Kaziranga National Park & the extra ordinary journey on Vivek Express. It’s the biggest mistake I had ever come across on a magazine. And more so such blatant mistakes are eyesore when there are editors paid to check and cross check.

Hope corrective steps are taken so that it does not confuse people who are not from North east.

Burial ground and capital complex

Dear Editor,

In today’s fast growing population the death toll is also rising day by day. On the other hand the Capital Complex is facing serious problem --- lack of proper burial place.

There is no proper burial place in our state. It creates lot of problems to the people of marginal income groups. Even in the Capital Complex there has no cemetery. When someone’s kith and kin die especially of those who came from far off places, they face lots of problems due to lack of proper burial ground in the Capital Complex.

The problem is mounting day by day with the growing number of population in the state capital. It is time Govt takes necessary measures for the sake of general public.

I would like to request the Chief Minister to ensure a proper cemetery in the Capital Complex. And the cemetery should be classified on religious lines.

The never changing face of Daporijo

Dear Editor,

The face of Daporijo never changes. The pathetic road condition where driving means keeping your life at stake. Blocked and overflowing drainage system even in winter and worst in summer, a sore in the heart of Daporijo. Talking about the only gas agency service, people apply and pay for the cooking appliances but with no guarantee of receiving them on time. It takes a month long time or more. The only telecom service provider is BSNL but call it Bad Service No limit. The service provided is so poor, often people feel inconvenient to deliver even a small message in person. Messages are sent but received after one or two days. It’s even more of a test of patience for a person who wants to call a person living in Daporijo. Last but not the least, the lone, never upgraded, ill equipped government hospital. The only life giving temple, not only for the people living in Daporijo but for poor people living in far flung villages is in drastic condition.

Who is to be blamed? Is it the corrupt politician, corrupt district authority, corrupt engineers, corrupt contractors or the less vigilant people of Daporijo? It is high time we end this blame game and work for the development and beautification of our loving place Daporijo.

A special request to local MLA and the people of Daporijo to be more vigilant.

An unforgettable moment for villagers

Dear Editor,

It was unforgettable moment for the people of Sippi village in particular and Daporijo as a whole when Arunachal Pradesh Governor J J Singh and First Lady of the state Anupama Singh visited Sippi village, Upper Subansiri district on January 30. We hope, with the visit of Governor and First Lady the scenic beauty of Sippi village and its progressive nature will be recognized in real sense. We are also thankful to the governor for inviting talented artist Mena Soki at Raj Bhawan after witnessing his dancing skill during his visit to Sippi village.

Such invitation will surely boost the morale of an artist to prove himself as future star and to bring name and fame for Arunachal Pradesh like talented drummer Toko Teji. There are lot of talented artists in our state who can not improve their artistic skill due to lack of encouragement and support.

I express my gratitude to Governor J J Singh for his supporting nature to make Arunachal Pradesh a front runner state.

It is very pleasant to hear that RTI activist of our state Payi Gyadi has been nominated for the CNN-IBN citizen journalist award.

I support him and request my fellow citizens to support him.

I request Gyadi to collaborate with the persons like Anna Hazzare to fight against corruption and become an icon of anti-corruption of our poor state.

The plight of students

Dear Editor,

I would like to share the problems being faced by the villagers and students after the Paya bridge collapse. The students of Pobdi secondary school are unable to attend the classes though their examinations are approaching nearer. Even the teachers are unable to reach Paya Primary School. Now the villagers are engaging some boats on hire basis by paying Rs 1000 per day.

Therefore, my humble appeal to the higher authorities is to look into the matter seriously.

It is a big negligence on the part of the state Govt that so far no compensation has been provided to the families of  bridge collaspe victim and injured. In such a tragic situation, our leader should visit the accident site to normalize the situation.

However, I appreciate Roni Ete of 2nd APPBn BHQ, Aalo who saved  three students from the Yomgo river. Without him three more could have died. I also humbly request the state Govt to recognize the bravery shown by Roni Ete. I also appreciate parliamentary secretary, home, geology and mining for assuring immediate relief to the victim and restoration of collapsed bridge.

Court judgment and Telecom tariff

Following the Supreme Court’s cancelling 122 new telecom licenses India may see the end of low tariff regime that made call rates in the country among the lowest in the world, say experts.

The Supreme Court in its order has asked the government to seek fresh recommendations from Trai on allocation of licenses and spectrum by way of auction. The apex court also gave four months’ time to complete the process.

 The judgment also said that the concerned minister had not bothered to consider the Prime Minister’s advice. However, Union Agriculture Minister and NCP President Sharad Pawar admitted that the 2G scam brought disrepute to the system and the government. Adverse repercussions on India as an investment destination cannot be ruled out, he admitted.

On the other hand, experts feel that the apex court's move will provide opportunity to the old players to improve margins by hiking rates as the competition reduces in the sector.  According to them, with the number of operators likely to reduce, incumbent operators will be in a better position to hike tariffs.
